A Circle with a dot in the center is an ancient astronomical, astrological solar symbol that represents the Sun. 

Sonia Tonkin Inspired by this particular symbolic Sun representation designed an entire jewelry collection of wearable amulets, this original designs have become the signature pieces that she is sought after and known for.

This particular symbol was once the alchemist symbol for gold as well.  The symbol association with both the Sun and Gold dates back as far as alchemy itself.

The symbol of Helios who as God of the Sun, could see and hear everything.

The color of gold was associated with the brilliance of the Sun from the beginning of times, gold the noble metal was named after Sol, the golden Sun whose symbol was the perfect sphere.

The dot or point in the center of a circle symbolizes the blending of male and female forces.

In Hindu the circle is called the bindu or the spark of life within the cosmic womb. In Chinese the Sun represents Yang, the active, assertive masculine life principle.

Native American tribes usually included sun symbols in stories documented through art and passed down through the generations. In Egyptian culture, a winged sun disc symbol stood for protection. The Egyptians also worshiped the sun god Ra, Horus and Osiris. Horus represents the rising sun, Osiris the setting sun, and Ra represents the sun’s zenith.

In Chinese culture, it is a "yang" symbol associated with heat, masculine attributes and heaven. the sun as a representation of the cycle of life.

In Christianity the sun is the house of Archangel Michael and is also a symbol of the Christ, or Christ-like attributes.

The sun is the eye of Zeus in Greek mythology.

Likewise, in Hindu mythology the sun is the eye of Varuna, and is also considered the “divine rejuvenator.”

The sun has positive traits of being determined, focused, noble, and original.
